Dr. Suvarchala Suresh

Andhranatyam dancer - scholar - author - Lasyabhinayam exponent

Dr. Suvarchala Suresh carries the rich legacy of the temple dance traditions of the Telugu region having learned from her gurus Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Smt. Saride Manikyamma and Padmasri Dr. Nataraja Ramakrishna.

Profile

Dr. Suvarchala Suresh is an artiste of the Andhranatyam tradition. At her early age, she received training in dance from Smt. Saride Manikyamma, at Nritya Kala Nilayam, Jadcharla, Dist. Mahabubnagar. She gave dance performances at various places in Andhrapradesh on many occasions.

Later, she became a disciple of Padmasri Dr. Nataraja Ramakrishna, under whose scholarly guidance she completed her Master's Degree in Performing Arts (Dance) in 1991 as well as successfully carried out her research work on - The Lasya Dance Andhranatyam Tradition of Telugus" and received her Doctorate Degree from the University of Hyderabad in 1997. Dr. Suvarchala has conducted several seminars and Dance demonstrations for the children interested in Indian classical dance and running a dance institution: Abhinaya Akademy of Andhranatyam.

She also actively participated in the Andhranatyam seminar at Vijayawada, and the National Seminar on Andhranatyam at Hyderabad held in July and September 1994, respectively. Her articles on Dance art have been published in various literary magazines like Rasamayi, Musi, and Quarterly Telugu Magzine - NRIs' special Edition from Telugu Akademy, Hyderabad. She is planning to bring new dimensions to the Dance Art with Padmasri Dr. Nataraja Ramakrishna, the only Guru and the authority on all forms of Dance Art in Andhrapradesh.

Teaching experience

  1. Worked as Dance Instructor in Jawahar Bal Kendra, Mahboob Nagar from 1985 to 1987.

  2. Worked as Dance Instructor in Perini International, Hyderabad from 1987 to 1989 and 1991 to 1997.

  3. Working as Faculty Member in Department of Dance, Potti Sree Ramulu Telugu University, Hyderabad, teaching Post Graduate level since September’ 2002.

  1. Recipient of Senior Research Fellowship from Department of Culture, Government Of India, for the project on Dr. Nataraja Ramakrishna-Innovative Choreography methods and Techniques, in the year 2012-14.

  2. Recipient of Junior Research Fellowship from Department of Culture, Government Of India, for the project on Nayikas of Kshetrayya Padam’s in the year 2000.

  3. One of the Panel Member and Board of Studies Member for the Certificate, Diploma, and M.A courses for Potti Sree Ramulu Telugu University, Hyderabad since 1995.

Professional Training

  1. Initial training from Guru Saride Manikyamma guru, who is the recipient of the National Sangeeta Nataka Academy Award and only Agamanartana Vidusheemani. Performances were given in various places in the state on behalf of Nritya Kala Nilayam, Jadcherla from 1979 to 1983 under the able guidance of Guru Saride Manikyamma.

  2. Completed Six-year Diploma course from Perini International, Hyderabad from renowned Guru Dr. Nataraja Rama Krishna.

  3. During my M.P.A. Course study, I was very fortunate to have Padmasri Nataraja Rama Krishna, Smt.Chitradasharathy(Chandra Shekhar), Prof. PSR Apparao, Dr. Arudra, Sri Vak Ranga Rao, Sharan Lowen, Ranjana Gauhar, A.S.Raman, Pullela Sree Rama Chandrudu as our faculty to teach all aspects relating to the dance subject.
